Apple has long exercised a powerful hold over viral culture. You only have to look at its game-changing 1984 ad, which introduced the Apple Mac to the general public during Superbowl XVIII, to recognize the extent to which Apple has benefited from the
marketing power of the viral loop in building a brand that stands for
innovation, creativity and "future freedom.” Despite being released
over a quarter of a cen

Creative showcase:
I am normally not a huge fan of the Lynx adverts, even thought I can't ignore the benefits of watching them, but this time I am really impressed.
As far as I know this is the first proper campaign which combined high-end video production, interactivity and social media. Keeping Keeley works on all levels and uses the benefits of all formats to its full extend.
Its well produced, has got great casting (even Keeley is convincing) and is fully interactive and reactive.
And by u…

Here's my first post on my brand new blog on video advertising. Follow by new blog here:

2010 promises to be a very big year for both online video and mobile, and the pace at which this year has started in terms of workload is certainly in line with that promise.
We’re making lots of really positive changes to our online video at the Telegraph, which includes far larger video player sizes and creating video article…

Downloaded or streamed video content has actually been available on TVs for quite some time thanks to games consoles like Nintendo Wii and XBox 360, devices like
Apple TV and BT Vision and even hooking up a Mac Mini or computer. However, none of these are currently as simple as they could be for mainstream adoption, so on demand in the living room has remained niche (the one exception being Sky Box Office). In step a number of new devic…

One of the most important issues facing all brands that use video advertising online is working out how to measure success.
As video advertising exists online, and in the absence of a better option, it is often measured on a click through rate which I’m convinced is absolutely the wrong measure. Why I hear you cry? Well when you consider that a huge proportion of video pre-rolls are brand adverts, and that they are TV adverts with no call to action, and that the user has clicked on a link to wa…

Let’s face it, despite the hype, in-stream advertising has
not lived up to expectations and we as an industry need to take immediate action or online video and in-stream advertising risks going the way of Second Life. In the Spring of 2009, the IAB officially announced the rele…

Video viewing in social networks has doubled, with Facebook now the third most popular video site in the world. Here's
an article with the stats.
This set off fireworks in my head because I've been recommending people advertise in and around online video as a direct and safe route into social networks for a long time. In fact, here's…

Is there one trick that is likely to boost your campaign’s performance? Yes there is—video! The recently published Analytics Bulletin by Eyeblaster Research clearly shows that video boosts the performance of ads, compared to creatives without video. Particularly, for In-Banner and Floating ads, video doubles Dwell Time and significantly increases Dwell Rate.
In the last four years, Eyeblaster has seen a tenfold growth in video impressions. In addition, at the same period, video impressions have…

Over the last two years I’ve been lucky to head up the
IAB Video Council and while there’s always been a buzz around online video it’s never been greater than now. There may be some teething problems to overcome in this new channel - such as increasing research - but every single senior marketer I’ve spoken to about it (and there have been hundreds) see its huge potential and want to us…

You can find Ari Paparo's description of the differences between 1.0 and 2.0
here and the actual documentation for VAST 2.0
here
Hopefully the changes should help to clarify some of the grey areas and make it easy for technology providers, publishers and agencies alike to make the process of delivering video ads as painless as possible.

We’ve nearly made it, the end of the year is close… just when I think that a year of hard graft can't go any faster, 2009 has raced by quicker than any yet.
Looking back to January, I was rather bullish about the 2009 online video market, and felt that large growth was inevitable. My confidence boiled down to two key factors:
1) all popular destination sites were committed to enhancing their websites with video content
2) broadcasters were pointing to their web video on-demand (VOD) offerings…

from the Coull blog, sorry that this a repost but my fingers are tired. If nothing else then you may want to watch the ad - a product that I didn't even dream could exist.
If all that you are doing is sticking a video online and hoping that someone will do something as a result of seeing it then there is no difference to TV advertising. Further thoughts
here…

SM09 WHITE PAPER 09.pdf
The success of a piece of branded content is extremely difficult to determine. Viewing figures don’t tell the full story with regards to engagement, brand perception and increased propensity to buy. As the consumer is in control the guidelines for this new medium need to come from them.
Simply Media worked closely with media specialist Work Research to devise the…

I was hosting a party so didn't get the opportunity to take part, but Saturday 10th October was a micro first for online video when the England vs Ukraine match was broadcast exclusively online. In my house I already have a Mac Mini hooked up to my 41" LCD TV, so I can watch online video on my PC, laptop, iPhone or TV. Basically I have a great experience, but I'm totally aware that I am an early adopter of this technology. Until Project Canvas, games consoles or other set-top boxes like Sky can…
