Online TV, long and short form video, IPTV

Just had my invite to seesaw and check it out this morning.
They are claiming to be the "future of online TV".
I have to say if that is the future then we should all start looking for a new job soon.
So far its iplayer, 4oD, Five and standard VoD on one page. But that's where it stops ! The ads are simple pre-roll. No interactivity, no engagement and certainly no rich media experience to excite advertisers.
Whats really missing for me is any social media engagement. You can follow them on twitter but that it. No sharing, rating, conversations and no connection. What about using Facebook connect to bring people together to share this experience ? There are so many easy to use, 3rd party apps these days which could turn this into a rewarding rich media experience. And what are they doing when Project canvas launches ?

If all this is about to be implemented in the next version then I'll feel like a prat for sure but right now its a bit like the ipad experience !!

Has anyone else tried it ? Keen to hear feedback from within the council.

Hi Patrick,

Yes I too was underwhelmed but it is the Beta version so we shouldn't judge too harshly yet.

I agree however, its a linear TV advertising experience and although its in Beta, it doesn't FEEL as if its going to have the social aspects built into the finished version.

It does look very pretty though, and I liked a couple of touches - for example, the background darkening when the content is being played out of a full screen.

I believe it has a fair whack behind it but its going to require one hell of an advertising campaign to win over the online viewing public. Equally so, without some more integrated ad/tech solutions its not going to find its way into award categories very quickly and therefore not the hearts of innovative planners. I've heard rates proposed are higher than industry network/broadcaster average also. Why?

It has more recent Channel 4 programming on it now, much more incentive to go on to it.
